Where is your inspiration coming from?
I am inspired by the nature, to choose my materials, but also to find the shape of the pieces or the process to create them. I am trying in a way to create the illusion of a living organism
What are you trying to communicate in particular with your artwork?
I would love to create for the audience the need to touch things, to play with them in order to reconnect our body to our mind in our society more inclined to connect in a virtual form than in a real one.
Which material you prefer to use and why?
I have several; Textile seems to me the most obvious choice to create the structure by dealing with my condition. I also love to work with semi precious gemstones by picking them for their color, shapes but also because of the belief around some particular stones’ power. And finally, I work a lot with beads cause in the language I created with each material, beads turn to be a way to symbolize the Human kind, with this plastic material you will never find in the Nature.
How much value do you give to researching material for your creations?
It is a big part of my work, and it is a constant work in process. I am looking a lot of documentary all the time, and the relation to some material can be really different for several culture, it allowed me to build my own language, each material has a potential to say something and to enhance the concept of the piece.
Is it more important for you the process, or the final artwork itself?
Even if the two are really important, I think the process is the most important in my work. I am using often a modular process to create a piece; it is inspired by cell mitosis. The modular process used to produce its shape, and the interactivity of the chosen materials, bring forth the idea of a living organism. But I am not having a full control of the way the artwork is growing, there is a hazard factor that interested me a lot and seems to fit more to a representation of a living form.
Is there an artist you prefer and why?
Recently I was really seduced by the work of David Altmejd, I feel there is something similar in our work, the textile plays a big part and is used as a tool of communication and I also considered, even if we are working on different scales, we can loose ourselves in the artwork and start following an other story…big and small are always connected and similar in a way…
Have you ever thought to collaborate with other artists, or you like to work on your own?
I do take part in collaborations, not only with other artists, but also with several other fields. I already work for a Movie, with a French Fragrance designer or by creating pieces using hair for a famous French hairdresser blogger. It is also really valuable for me to be able to speak with other jewelry artist about our creations… I consider every exchange as a way to nourish our practice.
Where do you feel you are at with this last collection?
The selection presented in this exhibition, symbolizes a point in my work where I started to create pieces using my own language and experience in a more abstract way. This will give the space to the Audience to imagine their own story, to create their own link to the piece and to finish to be able to adopt a piece and cherish it as a living form.
What have you discovered of yourself, are you satisfied?
I discovered the evolution of these pieces went from figurative shape to abstract one at the same time I was accepting my condition. Now I build myself enough to speak about everything, maybe I will be the only one understanding it but it will always help me to understand and digest what is happening all around.
Two words to describe your last artwork collection.
