Where is your inspiration coming from?
My inspiration comes from the objetcs that I find and pick up from the streets. I also think that visual arts give me a lot of ideas to work with.
What are you trying to communicate in particular with your artwork?
My works are a reflection of my search in finding beauty in what is insignificant, what is left unseen. I love finding beauty in what is imperfect and unfinished.
I like to discover the beauty which resides in what is flawed. I take objects or materials that were previously discarded to bring them a new life, giving them the opportunity to be reborn through a jewel.
Which material you prefer to use and why ?
I prefer to work with rusty iron because it reminds me of past of time, the metamorphosis of the matter. And it is precisely in the rust language where we can contemplate the ephemeral of our existence.
How much value do you give to researching material for your creations?
To me it is very important, because I run into materials that determine my artworks. The fact that the materials which I find are unexpected, represet a huge challenge for me.
Is it more important for you the process, or the final artwork itself?
Both. I mostly enjoy the process and I feel extremly happy when I am able to express my idea on an object.
Is there an artist you prefer and why ?
I like many artists, but one of my all time favorites, since I was an art student, is Francis Bacon. I love his ability to describe the deterioration of the matter, the suffering of the flesh, with an incredible techinque and perfect making. I also love the contrast between the different areas of his works.
Have you ever thought to collaborate with other artists , or you like to work on your own?
For my artwork I usually work on my own, but I would never reject that option.
Where do you feel you are at with this last collection?
To my it is very hard to decide when a collection is over because I am never completly satisfied. The ideas for new things and new projects never stop coming to my mind.
What have you discovered of yourself, are you satisfied ?
I have discovered a strenght in myself that encourages me to not give up when the challenges seem impossible at first sight.
Two words to describe your last artwork collection.
