Artist Beppe Kessler
“I am a painter who makes small things and a jewellery maker who paints”
Beppe Kessler
--------

Beppe Kessler (1952) grew up in Amsterdam and she studied at the textile department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (1974-1979). After graduating from the academy, Kessler initially worked as an autonomous artist. From 1981, she developed – in addition to the autonomous work – jewellery with unusual, sometimes perishable materials. Beppe Kessler’s artworks have found their way into numerous museums, including the Rijksmuseum and Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Textielmuseum in Tilburg and the Museums of Arnhem and Den Bosch.
Many of her works are part of international collections, like those of the Schmuck Museum in Pforzheim, Germany,
and prominent museums in Montreal, Houston, Boston and New York.
In 2019 the CODA Museum, (Apeldoorn NL) honored her with an exhibition a time of seeing,  40 years of work.
The exhibition showed a selection of works in which the interrelationship between jewellery and painting was most clearly visible.
The CODA Museum, still actively collects Kessler’s work, and has been doing so since 1983.
---------------
"Kessler’s work is not about the pursuit of effect, but about creating an image that evokes thought, that establishes connections. The aim of her works is to provide space for intangible elements like wind, warmth, weather conditions or moods; to ponder a concept like the past, the meaning of nothingness. What is special about Kessler’s concrete, active approach is that this process requires time, time in which the hands perform and the mind can wander. This gradually leads to an interaction between her exploring intuition and a new narrative. The artist’s initial reflection on these themes results in an invitation to the spectators to follow their own train of thought, often aided by the title of a collection or work."
