SURI & ROS is a contemporary jewelry collection born from a collaboration between two jewelry artists: Giulia Vecchiato (SURI Jewelry) and Agustina Ros. The collection is a series of unique handmade pieces in metal and glass.
This project came to life thanks to the collaboration between Giulia Vecchiato and Agustina Ros and was first presented during New York City Jewelry Week 2020 as a virtual exhibition project initially called It's Not Just About Hair. It is a new vision by two artists who, starting from the solid belief that collaborating is fundamental today more than ever, manifests itself in the creation of unique and multifunctional jewelry design pieces. It took nine months to see the first pieces begin to come to life. Since the two artists live and work in different countries - Giulia Vecchiato, Venice (IT) and Agustina Ros, Barcelona (ES) - and above all, due to the global situation during 2020, they easily adapted to the situation, working in their own studios, sending metal and glass pieces to each other. For the two artists it was a constant challenge to find the best technical solutions to make each piece work. With the desire to continue to evolve, the project is growing and today Giulia Vecchiato and Agustina Ros find themselves wanting to keep working on this collection. Thanks to the first experience, the artists have further refined the technique managing to enhance the aesthetic virtues inherent in the collection. In the new pieces created, glass invades the path more than metal, with even more extreme silhouettes, allowing Vecchiato and Ros to play a lot with balance and volumes. Unique works that look at design objects but keep their identity well rooted in contemporary jewelery. And so brooches, pendants, earrings and rings are born. Each piece is built starting from metal, conceived, designed and hand cutted by Giulia Vecchiato, which passing into the hands of Agustina Ros is enriched by the monumental presence of glass, blown directly on the metal forcing it to deformation. The metal plates, reminiscent of ancient combs, objects of a thousand shapes and sizes, are cut and finished by hand by Giulia Vecchiato, the glass volumes, sinuous and languid, blown by Agustina Ros, push and force the metal. This coexistence of materials creates a juicy and balanced game of contrasts between volumes. Much of SURI&ROS jewels reveal another apparently hidden value: multifunctionality. Thanks to shrewd skills such as lightness, closures and golden chains, brooches become pendants, earrings become brooches and so on, with the result of having three or four jewels in one. The main concept is now stronger thanks to an extraordinary collaboration. Highlighting the brightness of both materials and the reflections between light, transparency and color, creating avant-garde pieces that invite you to play with the multifunction of the jewel, with the intervention of the brilliant Italian photographer Marta Marinotti who perfectly captures the visual universe told by the jewels. “We have managed to take this wonderful project a step further, where we both take absolute control and convey a unique, perfectly blended identity. The soul of this collaboration is the result of the magical union that we experience by working together” says Agustina Ros.
